New Peugeot 2008: 2019’s on-trend crossover arrives
It was inevitable that the new Peugeot 2008 crossover wouldn’t be far behind its hatchback sibling. So, here it is: revealed in full and going on sale at the end of 2019.
The 2008 continues to be the brand’s smallest crossover SUV and, in its latest generation, is reborn under Peugeot’s new design renaissance.
The sabretooths are here to stay, then
Yes, the new 2008 continues the brand’s trend for dramatic design and, of course, those very cool DRL ‘fangs’ come along for the ride, too. At the rear, it’s much sharper and angular than that of the 208 hatch, mirroring the 3008 and 5008 SUVs more instead.
The e-2008 is light on bespoke details, but there are a couple for your spotters’ guide. The most obvious being a body-coloured front grille, a ‘dichromic’ lion emblem that shines between green and blue in certain lighting situations and of, course, no exhaust tip.
Fusion Orange is a new colour that, for now, is bespoke to the new crossover.
It’s longer and wider than the new 208 and the outgoing 2008, and Peugeot points to the wheelbase being 60mm longer for more interior room.
Speaking of the interior…
Seen the new Peugeot 208? It’s basically the same story here. An updated version of the brand’s i-Cockpit layout includes wider available infotainment screens, dinky wheel, trigger shifter for the automatic gearbox versions and small paddles for the main car’s functions. There’s also the new 3D instrument cluster that, again, made its debut on the 2008’s hatch compadré.
Engines and specs?
Three-cylinder petrols and a four-pot diesel, plus an EV version. PureTech petrol power comes in 99, 128 and 153bhp with the latter two available with an eight-speed auto. There’s also a manual 99bhp and automatic 128bhp diesel.
As for the e-2008, that has a 100kW (134bhp) electric motor and a 50kWh battery pack. Peugeot claims 193 miles on WLTP.
Like its predecessor, all-wheel drive isn’t available but PSA’s Grip Control with hill descent control is.
